This small hike tour takes you to the local mountain of Bale with the small chapel of San Michele. The 190 m heighted hill offers a magnificent 360° panoramic view from Pula in the south, across the Brijuni Islands, Rovinj and Bale to the Učka massif in the far north of Istria.
We recommend to start the tour at the cemetery of Bale. Immediately after crossing the road to Pula follow the second dirt track on the left. Lined with ancient walls this way takes you through a small wooded area up to a nice clearing, from which a small path on the right side leads uphill. At the top you reach a small plateau from which you can enjoy the views and make a short break. A few meters further up the hill, above the fire watchtower, are the remains of the small chapel of San Michele / Sv. Mihovila.
Theway back begins below the fire watchtower and leads initially in northerly direction until you reach the old water reservoir. Here you turn right on a path that takes you down to Bale.

A real highlight is this cross-border cycle path on the former railway line from Trieste to Parenzo (Poreč). The narrow-gauge railway line, which was put into operation in 1902 and closed down again in 1935, leads from Trieste via Koper to the Istrian hills and on to Poreč.
Between the mountain villages of Groznjan, Motovun and Vižinada there are the most beautiful stretches of the route: numerous tunnels and viaducts alternate with breathtaking panoramic views. This distance is approx. 35 km long and can be mastered well in one day (if you are in good physical condition also return trip).
Important: The route is only suitable for mountain bikes, as it consists almost entirely of gravel paths, some of which can be very bumpy.

The 7 Waterfalls Trail between Buzet and Kotli in northern Istria is a popular hiking route that leads through a picturesque landscape with seven waterfalls. The trail is well marked and offers a varied hike along the Mirna River.
The best time to hike the 7 Waterfalls Trail is in spring or autumn, when temperatures are pleasant and the waterfalls have the most water. However, the trails can be very muddy or impassable after heavy rainfall.
The picturesque town of Kotli is a good starting point. From there, the trail leads along the Mirna to the seven waterfalls. The largest waterfall is the Sopot Waterfall, which is about 25 meters high.
The 7 Waterfalls Trail is a moderately difficult hike that is also suitable for families with children. However, there are some steep sections, so sturdy shoes are recommended!
Alternatively, the tour can also be started in Buzet. From there, you first follow the course of the Mirna for about 2 km until the actual circular trail begins.
