Poreč is probably the best known and most visited town on the west coast of Istria. Situated on a peninsula, the picturesque Venetian old town holds a UNESCO World Heritage Site: the Basilica of Euphrasius with its precious Byzantine mosaics. When you visit the basilica, don't miss climbing the Campanile, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the roofs of Poreč and the sea. Also worthwhile is a walk along the fortress wall and through the historic old town, which has been spruced up in recent years. Many streets and pathways in the old town have been redesigned, and numerous small shops, restaurants, bars and cafés have set up shop here.

If possible, you should visit Poreč outside the high season, as the city is usually packed in July and August. However, even during this time the city is absolutely worth seeing and there are always sufficient and well-signposted parking spaces available near the city centre.
